Why did India distance herself from the two superpower camps?

India was recently freed from colonization and emerging as a sovereign nation, so the leaders did not want to fall under the rule of any organization or grouping that would again take away India’s sovereignty. So India opted out from joining either of the superpower camps ( USSR and US).
