Analyze any three threats to the global environment these days.

OR

Analyze any three demerits of globalization.

Globalisation has transformed the way of living, it has reduced the distances and increased the interdependence among the people and nations at all levels. But Globalisation has brought a drastic change in the environment and raised concern worldwide.

The threats posed by Globalization to the Global environment are:

1. The grasslands have been overgrazed and fisheries over-harvested, to an extent that it cannot be expanded any further.

2. The effluents from factories and industries have depleted water bodies extensively. According to the Human development report 2006, there are many nations and regions in the world that have no access to clean and safe water.

3. The process of setting up of industries and constructing building led to clearance of forests. The natural forests are the major supplier of oxygen and stabilize the climate, but the losses caused in past years have destructed the habitat.

4. The ozone layer that absorbs the ultraviolet radiate from Sun’s rays and prevents the earth from it. But the gases released from industries have diminished the layer and poses danger to the ecosystem.

5. Due to land-based activities, the seas alongside the coastal areas have been polluted.

There are many more concerns pertaining to the environment, but above mentioned poses major threats and if kept unchecked would affect the human settlement heavily.

The process of Globalisation has brought the world together at a single platform where the differences have diminished in all aspects including social, cultural, economic, political etc. Globalization has transformed the way of living, it has reduced the distances and increased the interdependence among the people and nations at all levels.

Along with these many merits Globalisation has been criticized too for the negative impact it has left behind.

1. Globalization led to the influx of industries, factories and forests were cleared in huge amount for the set, which in turn ruined the environment and diminished the biodiversity.

2. The local economies were affected.

3. Anti Globalisation movements too participate in the global network. These movements are not against the concept of globalization but oppose specific programmes of globalization.

4. In India also some movements were carried in opposition to the Globalisation. Example: Trade Unions of the industrial workforce that represents farmers’ interest and have protested against the entry of Multi-National companies.

Hence though Globalisation has attracted a major chunk of nations yet there are regions, communities, people etc who were affected negatively due to globalization.
