The alarming population growth is leading to scarcity of basic requirements. Suggest with the reason, any two population control measures other than contraception to address the situation.

Two such population control measures other than contraception are :

1. Delayed marriages – In certain developing countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh child marriage or marriage at an early stage is very prominent. That is one reason for the high population of these countries. At such an age one hasn’t even reached maturity and don’t have basic knowledge and awareness about family planning programmes. Due to lack of awareness people tend to marry their children at early ages which gives them long span for giving birth. Hence measures should be taken to make people aware of the consequences of having too many children. It has also been noticed that in countries with more poverty have the highest population growth. In many places, people sell their children to rich people for money. Parents also force their children to work at a tender age.

2. Ensured medical facilities – In developing countries, there are limitations in case of hospitals, doctors and specialised nurses. All these are confined to urban areas. Poor or rural people due to lack of money can’t travel far so infant mortality rate is higher in rural areas. Thus rural people give birth to more kids to ensure survival of some. Hence increasing the population. Therefore, proper medical facilities and good doctors should be provided in the rural areas as well.
