Evidence shows that in practice many democracies did not fulfill the expectation of producing economic development in the country. Validate the statement with the help of a relevant example.

Economic development of a country depends on several factors: country’s population size, global situation, cooperation from other countries, economic priorities adopted by the country, etc.
there is a common perception that democracy is the key to economic development. However, it may not be true in every case.

For instance - Many countries in the Asian continent like India, Pakistan, China got independence at the same time but China has surpassed every nation of the world in terms of economic development even it is not a democracy, there exists a rule of only one party with no opposition. On the other hand, India is the largest democracy in the world we are still far behind China. This shows democracy is not the guarantor of the economic growth.

However, this doesn’t make democracy weaker to the other systems because democracy is based on values like liberty, equality, rights which are equally important along with economic development.
