We should be content with what life gives us. If we long for more and are not contented with our means, we shall suffer much and face difficulties in our life. Justify it with reference to the character ‘Matilda’ in the lesson ‘The Necklace’. (About 80 to 100 words)

Selfish is a common trait among all except a few and Kisa Gotami could not save herself untouched from it. She says, “How selfish am I in my grief!” The statement is true.

Kisa had an only son who was dead but she couldn’t accept the reality. She was holding his body and was roaming around in search of medicine. Then she met Buddha who said her to get a mustard seed from the house wherein no deaths have taken place. After a lot of unsuccessful attempts, she realized that death is common. So, it is the natural tendency of a human being to cry and not to accept the reality of death that is common to one and all.

OR

One should accept with everything they have. Greed has no end. We should be content be what life gave us. This is very well stated in the lesson ‘The Necklace’. Matilda was not satisfied with what she and her husband have. She wanted a new dress for the party for which her husband gave her a few hundred bucks. But later she was not satisfied with that as well. She wanted a necklace as well and borrowed from her friend and lost it. Because of which she was forced to pay huge money at high rates. And then she led a miserable life for the next 10 years. So, it is very well depicted that one should be satisfied with what life gives to us. We shouldn’t crave for what is beyond our means.
