The production of aluminium starts with bauxite. It is made up of 50 percent alumina. The process of extraction of alumina from bauxite is known as Bayer process. Aluminium is widely used in manufacturing aircraft, utensils, etc. as it is light, resistant to corrosion, a good conductor of heat, malleable and becomes strong when mixed with other metals.
