B. How is the value of secularism relevant to resolve communal problems in contemporary India?

A.

Gandhiji had always favoured secularism. He tried to build a relationship based on trust, brotherhood, confidence among the communities as a group and the feeling of patriotism and integration with the country as a whole. He also never ignored the plight of the minority communities. One such example is the riots of Calcutta where he visited and appealed for peace and harmony.

B.

The values of secularism are of utmost importance in solving the communal problems in contemporary India. Secularism preaches the equal treatment of everyone, with complete disregard of a person’s race, religion, caste etc. It also promotes the concept of equal treatment, consideration of human feelings, social justice and a degree of tolerance.
