Point out one similarity and one dissimilarity between Lingayats and Nayanars.

Similarities:


a. Both opposed the caste system.


b. Both parties opposed Brahmanical concepts such as untouchability and rituals.


c. Both were ardent devotees of lord Shiva.


d. Both of them followed Saguna Bhakti.


Dissimilarities:


a. Nayanars were not limited to any region, however Lingayats were popular only in Karnataka.


b. Nayanars worshipped Shiva in both Linga and idol form, but the Lingayats worshipped only the Linga.


c. Nayanars are spread across South India whereas Karnataka is densely populated with the Lingayat community.


d. Nayanars cremated the dead bodies of the deceased whereas the Lingayats buried the dead bodies.


e. Tamil was the chosen language of the Nayanars whereas the Lingayats chose Kannada.
