The archaeological study of the Vijayanagara Empire highlights the following aspects on the Urban Core:

a. The Portuguese traveller Barbosa has mentioned that the roofs of the urban houses were thatched.

b. The houses were built very strong and there were many temples and shrines found.

c. The Muslim residential quarters which were found in the north eastern corner of the urban core indicated that it was the dwelling place of many rich traders.

d. The architectural style of the buildings could be related to the mandapas.

e. Many tombs and mosques were also found.

f. Evidences of roads, bazaars, fortification of the cities were also seen.

g. Rainwater tanks, good drainage system and river embankments were also found to be some of the aspects.
