What is the digital divide?

The access and opportunities emerging from the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are unevenly distributed across different countries. This has led to the development of the digital divide among the citizens. The digital divide is the divide between the developing and the developed countries in their access to information and communication technology. This can occur even between the rural and urban areas of the same country. The developed countries have better access to information and communication networks and advanced technology, the developing countries have lagged behind. This has intensified the digital divide between countries and also within the country.
