a) The Panama Canal is an important shipping canal. It was constructed across the Panama Isthmus between Panama City and Colon by the US government.


b) The canal was constructed across the Panama Isthmus between Panama City and Colon by the U.S. government. It connects the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west.


c) The canal reduces the distance between New York and San Francisco by 13,000 km by sea. It also reduces the distance between Western Europe and the West-coast of USA, North-eastern and Central USA and East and South-east Asia. Compared to the Suez Canal, economic significance is lesser. Still, the canal is of huge importance to the Latin American economies.
