Petroleum is referred to as liquid gold because gold is scarce in nature and the uses which it can be put to are multiple.


The two important uses of petroleum are the following:


a) It has many by-products such as fertilizers, rubber, lubricants,medicines, wax, soaps etc


b) It is a source of energy in railways and aeroplanes.


The two oil fields in Assam are Digboi and Moran.


The two oil fields in Gujarat are Kalol and Kosamba.
