Yes, there are certain limits regarding what epigraphy can reveal. A few points are mentioned below:

a) The letters are faintly engraved

c) The author had inscribed certain letters with a particular mindset. It is important to decode them properly so that the correct meaning can be understood.


d) Only politically and economically important events were noted down. The daily chores of the people were not noted down.


e) Although many thousands of inscriptions were noted down, only a few of them have been discovered, published and decoded.


f) Historians and epigraphists have to continuously assess their statements in inscriptions to judge whether they are true or simply exxageration.
