Q1 of 15 Page 72

When one loses something, he/she is shocked and goes into a state of denial, leading to anger. In such a situation, coping leads to acceptance and a changed way of living with loss. Write an article on how 'Hope' helps one to 'Cope with Loss', with suitable examples from the two poems in about 100-120 words.

Hope and Coping with Loss

When people suffer from a major loss in life, it is very difficult to get oneself out of such a headspace and move on with life. Therefore, coping well after such incidents is extremely important. In this process of rebuilding oneself, it is extremely important to hold on to the hope of a better time. As Emily Dickinson rightly mentions, hope is like a bird’s persistent, wordless song that continues to inspire the soul in the darkest of times. As she mentions, it is a force that demands nothing and gives comfort to people in troubled times. In Thomas Hardy’s The Darkling Thrush, the bird that offers hope to the melancholic poet is not perfect; it is frail and gaunt. Yet it offers a glimmer of hope to the poet, where he saw none. Therefore, to cope with loss and move on with life being hopeful about the future is crucial.
