Q3 of 21 Page 102

Read the extracts and answer the questions that follow:

‘I bless my nature that I am

Allied to all the bliss,

Which other worlds we're told afford,

But which I find in this.’

(i) What is the 'bliss' referred to here?

(ii) In what way is the poet allied to the bliss?

(iii) According to the poet, where else is one likely to find such bliss?

(i) ‘bliss’ is referred to as ‘happiness’ here. The poet is able to feel this happiness by having such a splendid sight of nature during a walk by moonlight. Eternal happiness is felt after leaving this real world and as it is a myth that such a spiritual power is only attained after reaching to god. But the poet has already experienced this mystic (extraordinary) beauty in moonlight so that is why he is blessed.

(ii) The poet is overwhelmed with the feeling of inner peace which he has experienced during that night walk of moonlight. He is now speechless after having such divine power with the beauty of the universe. He has now started to feel that every piece of this world is alive and have the capability of thinking and tenderness.

(iii) According to the poet, this kind of happiness is only found in another life. Instead of this real world of materials, one can only attain this immense joy after having full spiritual power and such power can inhibit in human after death i.e. in the home of god.
