Listen to a reading of Stanza IV of Wordsworth's poem, 'I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud'

"For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils."

In these lines poet has depicted his two experiences, one when he is in very thoughtful mind (pensive mood) and other a thoughtless mind (vacant mood). Both have its own reasons and lessons. When a thoughtful mind begins to rush it provides instant perceptions and images which are according to the poet are dull and mostly worrisome. People think about their future and present life, start making comparisons and begin to expect desperately for what he wishes for. A thoughtful mind can never be a peaceful mind if it only thinks of possessions and satisfactions. However it can provide bliss of loneliness by understanding yourselves from inside. Man needs to understand the right meaning of a reasoning thinking and that can only be possible by leaving the temperament from this world. Similarly a vacant mind is a set up of useless and illogical beliefs which human attains by watching this world living lifestyle. He sits idle, bored of his life, uninterested in any field of life and just starts to put up questions on his living and blame his existence. Such vague thoughts thus results in agony and anxieties by which human can only suffer. But while talking and awakening his intellectual side he can surely able to possess spirituality.

So poet described the scenario of daffodils as it blooms so beautifully and peacefully that fills the heart of poet with immense pleasurable emotions. He feels the sensation of dancing of flowers in him and begins to move along with them. He describes that feeling “bliss of solitude” that means pleasure while being alone with only himself. Sitting alone to analyze your inner conscience and understanding the meaning of your life by communicating with you is a worth feeling indeed.
