What is plantation agriculture?

Cultivation of a single crop on a large scale with an organization similar to industrial production is called plantation agriculture. It is characterized by the requirement of a large amount of labour and capital. It also needs a proper transport network for successful operation as large quantities of the raw products are often transported to a factory for processing. In India, tea, coffee, rubber, sugarcane, banana, etc., are important plantation crops.
