Write a short note on the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

● In 1989 the Government of India had introduced a Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.


● This act was introduced to protect the atrocities against scheduled caste and Scheduled Tribes.


● It also describes the Strategies and the punishments to counteract.


● This act came into force on the 30th of January 1990.


● It is implemented by State governments as well as the central government.


● This includes a long list of acts that are punishable. Such as the following:


● Forcing to eat or drink and offensive substance.


● Wrongful deprivation of cultivation of a person's land.


● Wrongful deprivation of a person's right over any land or water.


● Forceful work as a bonded labor.


● Causing injury on the basis of false information.


● Deprivation to access to clean drinking water.


● Forceful leaving of a person house or village.
