Many other socio-cultural and economic factors are responsible for poverty. Justify the statement.

India has widespread poverty due to various historical socio-economic and cultural reasons:

i) People in India have certain social obligations. To fulfil them such as marriage and religious ceremonies, people spend a lot of money on such functions, even poor people. This makes the poor poorer.

ii) Small farmers used to take loans to buy seeds, pesticides, fertilizers etc. When there is crop failure they become indebted. This takes them under poverty.
