Answer in Detail

Enumerate the causes for the Second Industrialization in the USA.

The Second Industrialization of the USA was owed to the following:

1. The USA was eager to establish itself as a manufacturing hub, and was looking out for Europeans to provide technical knowledge on the running of the mills. One such person was Samuel Slater.

2. Slater was a mill worker, who travelled to New York, and helped Moses Brown establish and operate a mill. The news of mill’s success reached far, and Slater received several contracts to run mills around the country. This ushered in the age of technology, hence, Andrew Jackson named later, “The Father of American Industrial Revolution”.

3. Not only did the US import technology, but it also showed a streak of technological innovation. Major innovations in the US included steam boat service, telegraph lines and later, telephone and electric bulb.

4. Industrialisation was coupled with rapid urbanisation in the US. Hence, over 14 million people migrated to work in factories and mills from Europe. Even rural young adults started coming to cities in the hope of better opportunities.

5. Major league industrialists, like Rockefeller and Carnegie emerged in this period. Their growth was aided by governmental incentives like the construction of railroads and fiscal protectionism.
