What problems did shifting cultivators face under British rule?

Shifting cultivators faced many problems under British rule –

a. Cultivators life was directly connected with forests.


b. Their life was badly affected when the Britishers changed the laws of the forest.


c. The British extended their control over all forests and declared the forests as state properly.


d. Some forests were classified as reserved forests in which only those trees were produced which Britishers wanted.


e. In these forests, people were not allowed to move and practise jhum.


f. Many cultivators were forced to move to other areas in search of work and livelihood.
