Powers of tribal chiefs changed under colonial rule-

a. Tribal chiefs enjoyed a certain amount of economic power and had the right to administer their territories but in the colonial rule, all powers and functions were changed.


b. They lost most of their administrative powers and were forced to follow laws made by British officials in India.


c. Tribals chiefs had to pay tribute to the British.


d. They were allowed to keep their land titles over a cluster of villages and rent outlands.


e. They also lost the authority which they enjoyed earlier and were unable to fulfil their traditional functions.
