In what ways did the British change their policies as a result of the rebellion of 1857?

The British made a various change in their policies as a result of the rebellion of 1857. Some of them are as follows-

• All the powers were now transferred from East India Company to the British Crown.

• All the ruling chiefs and Nawabs were assured that their territory would never be annexed in the future.

• They could pass on their kingdoms to their adopted heirs.

• However, they had to accept the suzerainty of the British crown.

• a decision was taken to increase the proportion of Europeans in the army. More people were recruited from among the Ghurkhas, Sikhs, and Pathans.

• It was decided to respect the customs and traditions of the locals.
