In what ways did the British change their policies as a result of the rebellion of 1857?

The British made a various change in their policies as a result of the rebellion of 1857. Some of them are as follows-

All the powers were now transferred from East India Company to the British Crown.


All the ruling chiefs and Nawabs were assured that their territory would never be annexed in the future.


They could pass on their kingdoms to their adopted heirs.


However, they had to accept the suzerainty of the British crown.


a decision was taken to increase the proportion of Europeans in the army. More people were recruited from among the Ghurkhas, Sikhs, and Pathans.


It was decided to respect the customs and traditions of the locals.
