What do you know about the background of the Sri Lankan Tamils?

The Tamil speakers of Sri Lanka comprise about 18% of the country’s total population, and consist of two sub-groups. First are the native Tamil speakers of the country and second are those whose forefathers worked as plantation workers, having come from India. The former ones are called the Sri Lankan Tamils. They are concentrated in the north and east of the country. They are majorly either Hindu or Muslim, while a small population also belongs to the Christian community.
