Bauxite is an ore which is mainly a metallic mineral but it is also used as an industrial mineral. It is the only source for the production of aluminium making it important for all aluminium based industries like different forms of metallurgy, chemical industry, cement, steel and petroleum industry etc.

Any natural substance of organic or inorganic origin that has a definite chemical and physical properties is called a mineral. Minerals are of economic interest and are often extracted from the earth’s crust. They provide the basic raw materials required by human society for development.
