Explain the factors affecting tourism.

The factors affecting tourism are listed below:

a) Demand for tourism: Demand for tourism leads to the development of the tourism industry. As demand for tourism increases, the revenue earned from tourism activity increases, employment in the sector increases and thus there occurs an overall development of the sector. For example, tourism industry has rapidly developed in ‘Mandarmani’ which is a beach city in West Bengal. In recent years, a large number of tourists are going to ‘Mandarmani’ to enjoy a short vacation because it is very near to Kolkata. This has led to the development of tourism sector in this place, which is prevalent from the increasing number of hotels and holiday resorts in this area.


b) Transport: The opening-up of touristareas has occurred because of an improvement intransport facilities. Development of roadways has led to the development of the tourist spots which are accessible by road. In recentyears there has beenan expansion in air transport which has led to increased number of tourists travelling to tourist spots because air transport is highly time-saving and cheap.For example, increase in international flights from India has increased the number of tourists going to foreign countries for vacation.
