Q8 of 17 Page 8

What are the problems of road transport in mountainous, desert and flood-prone regions?

As road transportation is heavily dependent on the physiography of nature, there are certain issues that can occur with such transportation in desert, flood-prone and mountainous areas.

The problems of road transportation that can occur in mountainous regions are:

(A) Their irregular terrains make road construction tough because cutting through the mountains while building the road is not only expensive but also risky.

(B) Frequent landslide also makes roads unfit for usage.

The problem of road transportation that can occur in desert regions is that the sand in the desert areas makes laying down of roads difficult as it does not provide with a stronger base for the construction of roads.

Similarly, the problem of road transport in flood-prone areas is that roads become frequently flooded, hence making the road unfit for usage.
