(i) Following are the major attributes of the Suez Canal:

(A) Suez Canal connects Port Suez in the South, and Port Said in the North linking the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, respectively.


(B) It decreases the sea route distance between Colombo and Liverpool in comparison to the Cape of Good Hope route.


(C) It provides Europe with a fresh route to the Indian Ocean.


(ii) Following are the major attributes of the Panama Canal:


(A) Panama Canal connects Colon located in the Atlantic Ocean to Panama located in the Pacific Ocean.


(B) It reduces the distance between San Francisco as well as New York by 13,000 kilometres via sea. The distance between the West coast of the United States of America and Western Europe is also reduced.


(C) It is around 72 kilometres long and includes a deep cutting for 12 kilometres of length.


(D) It possesses six lock systems as well as ships across dissimilar level via these lock systems.
