Q9 of 10 Page 2

Examine the push factors that cause migration in India.

Push factors represent those less attractive factors that force persons to leave their location of origin or residence. These factors may involve:

(A) Abject poverty as well as hunger are among the major reasons in push factors relating to migration.

(B) Inadequate means of livelihood in their villages due to which people living in such areas are pushed out to distant or nearby towns.

(C) Political disturbances as well as inter-ethnic conflicts drive persons away from their homes.

(D) Environmental issues as well as natural disasters like floods, drought etc. often result in loss of homes, jobs and money, thereby rendering people homeless and driving them out of their residences.

(E) When a location exerts heavy population pressure over land resources, then ultimately the natural resources tend to become exhausted in near future via overuse by population, thereby becoming extinct and ultimately forcing persons to move from that location to another.
