Q10 of 10 Page 2

Explain in detail the four streams of migration in India with their main features.

Migration represents the motion of persons from allocation in the world to another fin order to take up semi-permanent or permanent residence. The four streams relating to migration within India are as follows:

(A) Rural to Rural:

Within this stream, persons tend to move from a rural region to the other rural region within India. The short distance of such stream is dominated by women due to marriage, accounting to about 64 percent. Male migrants tend to be less in such stream.

(B) Rural to Urban:

Within this stream, persons tend to move from a rural region to an urban region. Most rural-urban migrants tend to be males whereby they migrate majorly because of employment as well as work. Urban regions attract them by opportunities occurring in those regions. Another reason of migration includes education which is seen to be less in case of female migration.

(C) Urban to Urban:

Within this stream, persons commonly move out from a smaller urban region to a larger urban area for the purpose of gaining more opportunities. Millions of individuals within India migrate from smaller cities to larger metropolitan cities for greater salary and wages.

(D) Urban to Rural:

Within this stream, persons move from urban region to rural region. This kind of migration within India is commonly done by old age as well as retired persons because of pollution, overcrowding as well as other reasons.
