Explain the events that occur in the host cell on introduction of nematode resistant gene into the tobacco plant by using Agrobacterium vectors.

The events occurring in the host cell on the introduction of nematode resistant gene into the tobacco plant by using Agrobacterium vectors are-

• The introduced DNA produces both sense and anti-sense RNA in the host cells.

• Since the sense and the anti-sense RNA are complementary to one another, they form a double stranded RNA (dsRNA).

• This initiates RNA interference, thereby silencing the mRNA of the nematode.
