Which would undergo SN2 reaction faster in the following pair?


Rate of reaction of SN2 depends on that the nucleophile should approach the C-atom under attack without any hinderance. Presence of bulkier groups on or near the C- atom inhibits the reaction. Since, in 2nd molecule the attached methyl group is near the C-atom under attack as compared to that of 1st. Thus, 1st molecule would undergo SN2 reaction faster.
