(ii) Write the term used for this type of defect.


(iii) Why do silver halides show this type of defect?


(i) The above defect is stoichiometric as the no. of cations and anions are same.


(ii) The term used for this type of defect is Frenkel defect. The smaller cation usually gets dislocated from its position and occupy an interstitial site.


(iii) AgCl shows this type of defect due to difference in size of cation and anion. Here, Ag+ has small size compared to Cl and thus, Ag gets dislocated from its normal site and occupies an interstitial site showing Frenkel defect.
