When acetaldehyde reacts with Grignard reagent a secondary alchol called prop-2-ol(isopropyl alcohol) is formed.

Explanation:


Phosphorus trichloride (PCl3), Phosphorus pentachloride (PCl5)& Thionyl chloride (SOCl2) are powerful chlorinating agents. –OH group is easily replaced with Cl atom.



As SO2 and HCl can be easily separated from the main product, thionyl chloride is preferred often.
