Q1 of 26 Page 1

Give an example each of Molecular Solid and Ionic Solid.

Molecular Solids are those solids which are made up of either polar or non polar substances and are weakly held by van der wall forces. For ex, CO2 is a molecule and solid CO2 is a molecular solid. Water is a molecule and ice is molecular solid.

Ionic solids are those which are made up of oppositely charged ions and are strongly held together by ionic or electrostatic forces. For ex, NaCl (Common salt is made up of Na+ and Cl- ions)
