Q7 of 26 Page 1

(a) For the reaction 2X X2 the rate of reaction becomes three times when concentration of [X] is increased 27 times. What is the order of the reaction?

(b) What will be the effect of temperature on the rate of reaction?

For the reaction 2X X2

Rate of reaction = [2X]n

When concentration is increased 27 times then,

R2= K [27 X 2[X]]n

ATQ,

R2= 3 R1

[27 X 2[X]]n= 3 [2X]n

[54X]n =3×2n×[X]n

54n×[X]n = 3×2n×[X]n

=3

(27)n = 3

n= 1/3

So, the order of reaction is 1/3 = 0.33.

(b) When the temperature is increased, generally the rate of reaction is increased. As on high temperature, the average kinetic energy of reactant molecules also increases. Due to which, more molecules can rapidly cross the barrier of minimum collision frequency. And, hence the rate of reaction increases.
