Mention two reasons for the rapid increase of population in India.

Two reasons for the population explosion in India are:

(a) Illiteracy – Most of the people of our country are illiterate who do not know the importance of family planning and the functioning of the human reproductive system.

(b) Desire for a male child- In India, most of the families give preference to male child because of two reasons-

(i) The only male child will take care of their aged parents.

(ii) The only male child will keep up their family name.

Thus, most of the Indian families continue to give birth till they get a male child.
