What is the idea behind the phrase "population explosion"?

The phrase population explosion implies the sudden and rapid increase in human population beyond normal limits. Population explosion refers to an uncontrolled increase in population because of increased birth rate, better life expectancy and decreased infant mortality rate. It is more threatening in under-developed and developing countries.
