Q31 of 47 Page 1

Water is flowing at the rate of 2.52 km/hr. through a cylindrical pipe into a cylindrical tank, the radius of whose base is 40 cm. If the increase in the level of water in the tank, in half an hour is 3.15 m, find the internal diameter of the pipe.

Volume of water through pipe = Volume of water in the tank

Radius of the tank(R) = 40cm = 0.4m

Increase in height(H) = 3.15m

Volume of the water in the tank =

Let r be the internal radius of the pipe.

Velocity of water = 2.52km/hr

In half hour, distance travelled(L) = 2.52/2 = 1.26km = 1260m

Volume of water through pipe = Volume of water in the tank

r = 0.02m = 2cm

Diameter of the pipe = 4cm
