Q16 of 48 Page 1

An object of height 5 cm is placed perpendicular to the principal axis of a concave lens of focal length 10 cm. Use lens formula to determine the position, size and nature of the image if the distance of the object from the lens is 20 cm.

Given : Height of the object, h1 = 5 cm

Focal length of the concave lens, f = -10 cm

Object distance, u = -20 cm

Applying the lens formula:

v=-6.67 cm

The negative sign shows that the image is formed is virtual.

Magnification is given by

magnification, m=0.67

h2= +1.66 cm

As h2< h1, So image will be diminished in size.

The image will be virtual, erect and diminished.
