What are esters? How are they prepared? List two uses of esters.

Esters are defined as volatile liquids which are having fruity smell.

Preparation:


Esterification is defined as the chemical reaction of Ethanol with ethanoic acid in presence of concentrated sulphuric acid by providing heat results in formation of Ester i.e. Ethyl ethanoate.



Due to its fruity smell, Esters are used in making perfumed and artificial flavors and essences in ice-creams etc.
