A man covers a distance of 14 km in an hour, partly on foot at the rate of4km/hr and partly on scooter at 44 km/hr. Find the distance travelled by him onfoot.


Let the distance travelled on foot be x km.
Then, distance covered on scooter = (14 - x) km.
Therefore time taken to cover the distance on foot = (x/4) hrs.
Time taken to cover the distance on scooter = (14-x /44) hrs.

⇒
11x + 14 – x = 44
10x = 30
x = 3 km.
Hence, the distance covered on foot is 3 km.
