The sum of the numerator and denominator of a fraction is 4 more than twice thenumerator. If the numerator and denominator are increased by 3, they are in theratio 2:3. Determine the fraction.


Let the numerator be x.

Numerator + Denominator = 2Numerator + 4

Then denominator = 2 x + 4 – x = x + 4

3x + 9 = 2x + 14
x = 5
Therefore the required fraction is 5/9.
