Define the term, dispersion of white light. State the color which bends (i) the least,

(ii) the most, while passing through a glass prism. Draw the dispersion of light through prism.

The phenomenon of splitting of white light into its components colors while passing through a prism is known as Dispersion of light. The cause of the dispersion of light through the prism is because the angle of refraction of light of different is different and since white light is a mixture of seven colors and they get refracted at different angles resulting in the phenomenon of dispersion.


(i) The color which bends the least is the red color( Because red colour has the longest wavelength)


(ii) the color which bends the most is violet. (Because violet has the shortest wavelength)
