‘Natural gas is an important source of clean energy’. Support the statement with examples.

Natural gas is an important clean energy resource found in association with or without petroleum.

1. Natural gas is considered an environment friendly fuel because of low carbon-dioxide emissions, the fuel for present century.

2. Large reserves of natural gas have been found in Krishna-Godavari Basin along with the reserves of the Mumbai High and the allied fields and Gulf of Cambay. Additionally, Andaman and Nicobar islands are also important areas having large reserves.

3. The 1700km long Hazira-Bijaipur-Jagdishpur (linking Mumbai High and Bassien with fertilizer, power and industrial complexes in the western and northern region) cross-country gas pipeline has provided an impetus to India’s gas production. Also, use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicles replacing liquid fuels is a significant environment-friendly step.

NOTE – Natural gas, eco-friendly source of energy, is used an energy source as well as an industrial raw material in the petrochemical industry. Additionally, the power and fertilizer industries are the key users of natural gas.
