It was a family picnic. The picnic spot was the bank of a river........ ........ ........

It was a family picnic. The picnic spot was the bank of a river. Mum and dad were sitting on a blanket, taking out the food. The two children were playing on the bank.

Their parents cried out words of caution against wandering too close to the river. The children, ages seven and ten, only listened to their parents half heartedly.

Mum laid out the meal and called to the kids. They came back bouncing to a delicious spread- fruits, pies, sandwiches, and juice. They ate happily, until they could not eat any more. After the meal, the children went back to play at the bank while mum started collecting the food in the little basket she had brought with her. Dad laid down to get a little nap.

Suddenly, there was a scream. Dad bolted upright in a panic, to see only one of the children present on the bank. She was looking at the river while sobbing.

Dad didn’t think. He ran and jumped into the river. The child was just a little off the shore, but the river was treacherous. He saw a hand coming out, trying to grasp at the waters. Dad swam quickly and grabbed the child. Terrified, the child clung to dad as he swam them both to the shore, to safety.
