Attempt any four of the following sub questions:

Solve the following quadratic equation by factorization method
x2 – 7x + 10 = 0.

Given: x2 – 7x + 10 = 0.

Put x = 2 in x2 – 7x + 10, we get


(2)2 – 7(2) + 10 = 4 – 14 + 10 = 0


∴ x - 2 is a factor of x2 – 7x + 10


Also, put x = 5 in x2 – 7x + 10, we get


(5)2 – 7(5) + 10 = 25 – 35 + 10 = 0


∴ x - 5 is a factor of x2 – 7x + 10


Factorizing gives:


(x − 5)(x - 2) = 0


So we conclude:


(x − 5) = 0 ⇒ x = 5


and (x - 2) = 0 ⇒ x = 2


Hence the roots are x = 5 and x = 2.
