Q5 of 94 Page 20

The selling price with VAT, on a cooking range is Rs. 19,610. If the VAT is 6%, what is the original price of the cooking range?

Given

Selling price with VAT = 19,610

VAT is 6%

Let y be cost of cooking range

VAT amount = (VAT)(cost of cooking range)

= 6%(y)

= y = 0.06y

Selling price = cost of the cooking range + VAT amount

19,610 = y + 0.06 y

19,610 = 1.06 y

= y

y = 18,500

original price of the cooking range = 18,500
