What is meant by homologous series?

A series of compounds in which the same functional group substitutes for the hydrogen in a carbon chain is called homologous series.


Eaxample: Methane (CH4) and ethane (C2H8).


There are a part of homologous series & the difference among these molecules is that they have different numbers of CH2 groups.
