Some of the characteristics of matter that are demonstrated by the diffusion phenomena are:

• It shows that gases have the lowest density among the three states of matter. Because the rate of diffusion increases with a decrease in density and gases have the highest rate of diffusion.

• Diffusion takes place from the region of high concentration to the region of low concentration till the uniform distribution is attained. It enables us to to figure out whether the surrounding matter is at a higher concentration or a lower concentration, depending on the direction in which the diffusion occurs.
